✦ Prayer Before Examination

Lord Jesus, before I begin this examination of conscience,
I ask for the grace of true self-knowledge.
Help me to see my sins clearly, without excuse or self-deception.
Grant me sincere sorrow for the ways I have offended You,
and a firm purpose of amendment.
Mary, my Mother, and all the saints, pray for me. Amen.

✦ Act of Contrition

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee,
and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of heaven and the pain of hell,
but most of all because they have offended Thee, my God,
who art all good and deserving of all my love.
I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace,
to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin.
Amen.
